Making the case for an ethnic studies program

The Ed Partners RPP staff worked with Stanford University and San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to evaluate an ethnic studies course to see how it would affect student achievement and engagement.

We paired SFUSD leaders with an economics researcher at Stanford to examine the program in San Francisco schools. The researcher and public school community pairing proved to be fruitful, finding that the program contributed to increased student attendance, better GPAs and improved graduation rates. This new course made all the difference for SFUSD students.

Ed Partners’ connection between SFUSD and Stanford ensured proof of the program’s success. This offered evidence to justify the widespread adoption and scaling of ethnic studies coursework.
