Ed Partners Perspectives

Counting on Improvement

San Bruno Park Elementary School District is developing its capacity to utilize open tasks in mathematics.  Located 12 miles south of San Francisco in San Mateo County and supporting 2000 students from preschool through 8th grade, this district is part of Ed Partner’s third Preschool through 3rd grade Coherence Collaboration focusing on mathematics.  Their improvement team is using activities like counting collections to allow students to discuss and share their mathematical thinking.

The team’s commitment to bettering their teaching practice extended into the summer as they engaged in a book club to learn more about Choral Counting and Counting Collections. This summer work was critically important to the team as they continue to develop their understanding of how to create opportunities for students to talk about their mathematics for the 24-25 school year.  Additionally, this team has committed to intentionally spread and scale their work to colleagues and school sites by reflecting and implementing their learnings from the first year of the P3 collaboration. We are excited to continue to support them along that journey!

Next Year is Here!

While this year has just begun, we are already planning for 25-26!  Don’t miss an opportunity to join our upcoming preschool to third grade coherence collaboration or our 8th & 9th Grade On Track collaboration. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Steve Kellner with any questions you may have.
