Reaping the Benefits of TK

Starting with the 2025-2026 school year any California public school district operating a kindergarten must also provide a transitional kindergarten (TK) program for all children who turn four years old by September 1. Transitional kindergarten has the potential to close enormous equity gaps in third grade proficiency, benefiting all students and the entire K-12 school system. However, districts must align TK with their K-12 curriculum or the benefits can disappear over time.

California Education Partners’ Preschool through Third Grade Coherence Collaboration (P3CC) works alongside districts to reap the benefits of students earliest and most influential years. Learn more about how in this new 5-minute video.
